What we plan around in Castle Pines

Dark sky rules in the Village

The Village at Castle Pines calls itself a dark sky community. Adding exterior lighting needs Design Review Committee approval, through your sub-association first. Its lighting guidelines ban floodlighting a house, even temporarily, and lighting trees, and call colored lights “not supportive” of the Village’s natural character. They don’t mention holiday strands, so ask the DRC before you plan a display.

Snow on the Divide

Between Castle Pines and Monument, I-25 crosses the Palmer Divide, which can bring heavier snow. NOAA normals for neighboring Castle Rock give 57.5 inches a year and a December average low of 18°F. Maintenance through the season is part of your price.

Questions

Christmas lights in Castle Pines: good to know

Can I put up Christmas lights in the Village at Castle Pines?

The Village’s written lighting rules don’t set holiday dates, but they are strict: no floodlighting, even temporary, no lit trees, and colored lights are discouraged. Exterior lighting needs DRC approval, so check with your sub-association and the DRC first. Warm white along the roofline is the simplest place to start.
